AVI Dashboard
The NSX ALB Dashboard offers a holistic view of all your applications in one glance. This is a completely new way of looking at Load balancing as compared to traditional methods.
As opposed to simply displaying if the application is up or down, the NSX ALB dashboard provides a visual representation of the health of the application including a color coded number that can range anywhere between 1 and 100.

Let us zoom into the Avi-Demo instance (mouse hover) which is marked in orange with a score of just 46? Is that a good thing? May be not.
The composite health score offers a holistic view of the application health while considering performance, resources, anomalies and security parameters.
The security penalty of 20 seems to drag the overall health score down. In the later part of the demo, we will review some more security related enhancements that could potentially improve the composite health score.

Another key aspect of the simplicity of the solution lies in multi-cloud visibility. Notice the health scores are available for different clouds and not just VMware cloud or on-prem applications.
If you manage multi-cloud applications, you know how unproductive and frustrating it can be to access different disparate and in-consistent dashboard simply to understand the health of the applications.
The NSX ALB solution was purpose built to simplify application delivery for modern application across various infrastructures and multiple clouds which can save your hours of grunt work and finally help you savor that cup of early morning joe!

The Software Defined approach to load balancing also implies you can manage the entire virtual services centrally from the controller.
If you notice in the top right corner of the dashboard, we are managing the San Francisco instance, but you could just as easily switch to a different instance in a single click.
Next, let us click on the Applications tab to view all the Virtual Services.

Please note, this tabular view is fully customizable. If you need to add or remove any columns to display the information of your choice, you can do so easily from the settings tab. We will cover this in a different clickthrough demo.

This is the first time you will see the underlying infrastructure or the load balancers on which this virtual service is running. You can also see the server pools on which the application is running including the servers themselves. The concept of health score extends to the end devices too.
See the icon in red? It means that server is down. You can quickly hover over the down server to understand the root cause.

The simpliciy of the NSB ALB solution lies in its ability to quickly identify the root cause of the application failures. In this example, we can clearly see the server in down because the ARP is unresolved.

First up is the end-to-end timing chart that clearly depicts the application latency starting from client all the way to the server along with response times.
If you depend on your application teams to provide such important data, it is more likely that by the time you receive the information, it is simple outdated. More importantly, it becomes yet another task on your calendar.
NSX ALB democratizes this information reducing red tape and operational complexity along the way.
Mind you, this is not just data, rather actionable data. It is prescriptive enough to help teams avoid finger pointing by showing where the underlying issue was! That is how modern application delivery should be.
You can click on the drop-down menu to obtain historical view of the end-to-end timings, so you can go back in time if need be.
Next, let us click on the small flash icon.

A simple visual inspecton may reveal some anomalies and clicking on the tiny flash icon provides more details on the Anomaly itself. This information by itself is highly actionable and saves the debugging efforts to a great extent should things go wrong.
Next, let us click on the logs to bring them up.

Keeping in line with the simplicity in visibility, the logs, more specifically the significant ones, provide yet another way for you to quickly navigate through the thousands of lines of somewhat useful information and directly hone into the most mission critical prescriptive logs.

The beauty of the critical logs is the ability quickly zoom into the performance issue on a per application or a per user base and identify the root cause of the problem. The existing methods of application delivery may just indicate the general area of the problem, NSX ALB zeroes into the problem itself. Once you experience the new found power, you will never go back !
Moving along, say if there was a specific trend in a particulaxPcountry %u2013 %u201CUSA%u201D in this case, a simple click is sufficient to filter out all the transactions coming from USA and determine if the underlying issue is country specific.

It is needless to say; the same approach can be applied to any other attribute of the client or even the server including Browsers, OS, IP addresses, Protocols etc.
For this example, let us click on the Client OS tab.

We can obtain a complete security posture of the application for SSL and DDoS attack profiles. With such aggregate view you can rest assured knowing your applications are not compromised at any given point of time. You can even set alerts to notify them when things sometime go wrong.
Now let us go back and turn our attention on how easy it is to spin up a new virtual service.

Now comes the most exciting aspect. How long does it take you to deploy services for a new application? Days or weeks perhaps?
How easy it is really to set up the virtual service itself with NSX ALB? If the past few minutes have been any indication- the answer is VERY!
You can start by simply clicking on a single drop-down menu. Really, nothing else.

The beauty of the solution is that you need not know the underlying infrastructure including IP addresses. The Avi controller automatically takes care of it.
